Story[]
Bernard and his mother are out shopping in the White Park Zone but the youngster wants to go to the amusements. Both activities are cut short when a Trooper patrol rolls into town, threatening to conquer. The tide quickly turns when other Badniks arrive and fire on the Troopers, allowing the citizens to flee.
Later, Shortfuse the Cybernik, Niya the Gorilla and Bob the Plax investigate a Badnik Factory that they thought they had shut down. When they themselves are attacked by similar Badniks, Niya heads to destroy the core - where she is faced with Tekno the Cybernik powering the building. Niya immediately sets about hitting Tekno with a spanner, despite her protestations. Witnessing the fight, Shortfuse attacks the unknown assailant until she bellows out her name. The reunion is understandably testy, with Shortfuse initially assuming that Tekno has done this to herself. She explains how Doctor Robotnik trapped her in the shell but that Amy Rose freed her from his control. Once she lost Shortfuse's trail, Tekno had decided to modify Badniks into Niceniks. Shortfuse flips, believing that Tekno has been trapping people in the Niceniks to use as organic batteries, which she vehemently denies.
Focus turns to shutting down the factory. Niya chides Tekno's Niceniks for attacking them, but Tekno counters that they attack any intruders and they have successfully stopped all real Badnik attacks in the Zone. Shorty doesn't care, even when Niya suggests that he was a Badnik who got better. The scene is interrupted by the other fighters, who reveal that Badnik reinforcements are on the way and have them surrounded.

This story marks the reunion of Shorty and Tekno following their adventures and subsequent falling-out in Solstice. Tekno makes her second (full) appearance as a Cybernik following Amy vs. Tekno the Cybernik and Shorty marks his return alongside Niya after a short break since The War Machine. The former Cybernik will also appear later in the issue alongside the Free Mobius Supreme Command during The Battle of Emerald Hill. All these events appear within the New Robotnik Empire arc.
Trivia[]
- Chao make their first appearance since their full debut in Night of the Livid Pet. They were previously shown to have been relocated to the Floating Island but appear to have branched out.
