Sonic the Comic Wiki

Worlds Collide is a 2-part Sonic the Hedgehog story which began in Issue 164 of Sonic the Comic and ends the Shanazar arc.

Robotnik has indulged Princess Kupacious with a shiny new necklace. As she leaves to show it off in a royal walkabout, Grimer emerges from hiding to ask if the Princess has accepted the necklace. Their latest plan has begun....

Elsewhere, in another Zone of Shanazar, Sonic and Amy are fighting off a horde of mummies. One of the mummies' punches jogs Sonic's memory, and he remembers the Transportation Belt he took from Nack to get to Shanazar in the first place. Realising that a magic spell has caused him to forget about the belt and that it's their ticket home, Sonic storms off to the palace, where he finds Robotnik in full-on James Bond mode. Robotnik reveals that the Transportation Belt's components have been incorporated into a new machine: The Dimension Blender. The Blender's purpose is to enlarge Shanazar until it occupies the same space as Mobius, merging both worlds together, leaving Robotnik to take over in the ensuing confusion. Before Sonic can put a stop to it, he is blasted away by Nack. Amy attacks Nack in response, but is downed by Grimer. Princess Kupacious enters, but is transformed into a frog before she can order Robotnik's execution, thanks to the magic gems in the necklace.

Robotnik is confident that he won't be affected by the worlds merging, thanks to a magic gem of his own that will protect him from harm. Sonic is again blasted to one side before he can make a move, but Kupacious remains, and is very angry. Just as Robotnik activates the Dimension Blender, Kupacious grabs the gem with her tongue. As all assembled begin to feel the machine's effects, Robotnik is unable to find the gem, and the worlds begin to merge. A short time later, Shanazar's Zones have been added to a redesigned Mobius, and Sonic and Amy find themselves back home in the Emerald Hill Zone. All is well, but Robotnik is right behind them and very angry. The dictator tries attacking the blue blur, but Sonic effortlessly dodges all his attacks and knocks him down. As the Freedom Fighters arrive, Robotnik aims one last threat at Sonic, but is taken down several pegs by Amy. Grimer leads his despondent master away and a party celebrating Sonic and Amy's return begins. Once the celebration's over, Tekno reveals that in addition to access to the Zones of Shanazar, the heroes can access gateways leading to different periods and locations in Earth's history. Sonic is looking forward to the new adventures he'll experience, and leads Amy off to explore the new Zones, as the story ends on Kupacious, still with the gem, lording it over a number of other frogs.

  • Kupacious' ultimate fate resembles that of Captain Ginyu in Dragon Ball Z.
  • Conicidentally, there was an Archie story with a similar name.

The previous Sonic the Hedgehog story was Medusa. The next story was Earth Spirits.
