The Sonic-Cyclone attack (or Sonic vortex and other variations) is a technique regularly employed by Sonic the Hedgehog to deal with his enemies. Utilising his super speed, Sonic often begins to run in circles on the ground (or around his foe) to whip up a tornado. This has varied results of putting out fires, breaking out of prisons, blowing enemies away or even sinking them underwater.
A variation of this is a "cocoon of speed", employed when Sonic needs to stop a bomb from exploding. When the device inevitably goes off, the blast will be kept within the vortex, avoiding damage to anyone but Sonic.
