Tux is a minor background character from the Emerald Hill Zone (originally the Green Hill Zone). Although he has appeared several times with differing shapes and colours, Tux's only constant is that he is a penguin with a bowtie. Tux has never had a major appearance, instead filling up the numbers with the rest of the Emerald Hill folk, much like Joe Sushi and the early Flicky characters. He was later seen fighting against Arachbot alongside Sally Acorn, Sushi and Tufftee in the Turquoise Hill Zone during The Battle For Mobius.
Tux is based on the penguin from the early Sonic the Hedgehog games, where he is known as Pecky.
