Story[]
Two weeks after Operation Iblis, Tails and Holly have ventured out to the outskirts of the Oil Desert Zone in search of rebels who appear to like the sheer isolation of the lonely roads. As a result, Tails is hoping the the one sabotaging Robotnik's schemes out here is Sonic, who hasn't been seen or heard from since Super Sonic's last rampage. They quickly come across the saboteurs, a band of misfit Freedom Fighters wearing armour built from Badnik scrap, who are delighted to meet Tails, and Niya the Gorilla, their chief mechanic, fills Tails in on the plan: Rig up an old transport and head into a Badnik factory to rendezvous with the brains of their operation. Soon they're charging into battle on vehicles cobbled together from repurposed Badniks and storming the factory for supplies while Bob makes himself useful holding the perimeter. While they salvage new Badnik parts, Tails begins openly wondering where Sonic is, which confuses Niya. Sonic has nothing to do with the operation, and without warning, the rebels are seized by Grabbers. Niya remains confident that their boss will show up, which annoys Holly. Just as she screams about him not existing, he arrives and destroys the Badniks. Tails recognises his voice immediately. Standing before them in a new suit made entirely from Badnik parts is none other than Shortfuse.
Shorty manages to help our heroes take out Uberniks and take out the fortress.
