The Overlord is a villain from the Eternal Champions series. Although always remaining unseen, The Overlord is a machine who has gained control over an entire futuristic city, possibly extending his reach to the whole of Planet Earth. Although it is unclear how exactly it managed to get so powerful, its origins are explained by the rise of Bio-Key technology developed by Nakano Industries. The Overlord combines processing power supposedly with neural sensors, allowing it to completely control all humans still living in the city, communicating with them directly in The Dream Bank.
The Overlord's true nemesis is The Eternal Champion, a martial arts master tasked with defeating the machine. To aid him, nine Eternal Champions were summoned to nip The Overlord's creation in the bud. Unfortunately, all they succeded in doing was speeding up The Overlord's concepting, trapping the events in a stable time loop.

- In the Eternal Champions Gamebook series (which is partially related to Sonic the Comic's chain of events), the Overlord can be fought by the player character inside a Cyber Cage.
