The Battle of Emerald Hill is a Sonic's World complete story that features in Issue 271 of Sonic the Comic Online. It loosely follows on from The Ending of Things! (Redux).

Story[]
Doctor Robotnik's Egg Bastion is vulnerable, with nearby bases like the Dolphin Resort Zone being liberated in a coordinated attack, whilst G.U.N. troops and Flying Dog mechs arrive at the tyrant's base. However, Badniks are gathering around a weakened Emerald Hill Zone and the Free Mobius Supreme Command meet to discuss their options. Commissioner Bodger, Tails, Knuckles the Echidna, Shortfuse the Cybernik, Vector the Crocodile and Sab convene to discuss their assault on the Bastion and agree that they do not want to lose South Island like they did the Miracle Planet. They also agree that Tails should lead the ground defence of Emerald Hill whilst the Floating Island fends off the air forces, but Tails begins to crumble under the pressure.
Later on, Tails hides his fears and rallies the troops whilst giving a brief, rousing interview to KBC's Hobson and Choy. Unfortunately, Theo notices that the horde of Badniks are marching on their location and several Aero-Chasers have launched long-range missiles to begin their attack.
At the Egg Bastion, Silver the Hedgehog smashes through several Badniks and into the Bastion itself when Iggy brings down the security. As the battle at Emerald Hill quietens and the Bastion heroes realise they are facing little barrier, Shadow II and Espio the Chameleon confirm that several cyberspace systems have been shut down. Although Tails just thinks the Badniks are regrouping, Silver realises that Robotnik has abandoned his seat, and control mechanism, in the Bastion. Hours away in Emerald Hill, Robotnik turns up in person, riding his new armour, powered by a repaired Chaos Tap. As Robotnik taunts a terrified Tails about Amy Rose's disappearance, Sonic the Hedgehog returns to provide reinforcements.
Trivia[]
- Part of the action in this story can be seen in the final panel of The Ending of Things! (Redux). The fixing of the timeline by Blaze the Cat ensures that Sonic was dumped closer to home than the Aquatic Ruin Zone and could help his friends.
- Shortfuse returns alongside the traditional heroes for the first time since his adventure in Solstice.

As of 18th August 2017, the Speedlines poll saw 30 votes on what Boomers felt to be their favourite story this issue. 50% of the selections (15) went towards this strip, making it a clear winner.
