Story[]
Another gateway to one of the New Zones has opened in the Emerald Hill Zone, so Sonic and Amy Rose are off to investigate (and fetch Tekno the Canary a stick of rock). They're shocked to discover that they've entered a world filled with superheroes! Muscleman introduces himself and his six-pack stomach, Amy merely states her power is her "super-patience". Suddenly, the flying Part-Time Powers Man loses his abilities and begins to plummet to the ground. Sonic uses a speed vortex to slow his fall, saving the hero's life. The grateful man invites Sonic and Amy to Herocon - '99, but they're not interested.
At the convention, the heroes discuss the agenda but they are interrupted by the arrival of Jacko Lantern and the other supervillains. As Lantern and Captain Ego clash, the organiser realises they've double-booked and a fight begins. Outside, Sonic and Amy arrive to see the mess but are more concerned when they see a meteor heading towards the planet. The flying heroes are too scared of heights to do anything about it and Jacko Lantern wishes Meteor Destruction Man to stop the plot - unaware that he's probably behind it! Sonic and Amy soon discover the villain's hideout, adorned with a giant magnet that is pulling the meteor in. Sonic hits Meteor Destruction Man with a Spin Attack and Amy uses her technological know-how gained from adventures with Tekno to reverse the magnet's polarity, repelling the meteor back into space. With the day saved, Muscleman proposes that Sonic and Amy join the Justice Legion of Champions. Sonic rushes off instead to explore more Zones, with Amy commenting that Sonic would look ridiculous in tights!
Trivia[]
- A New Zone is visited for the first time.
- Parodies of famous superheroes and villains can be seen throughout the story, with expies of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Doctor Doom just a few of them.
- A villain that greatly resembles Kalus can be seen when the villains crash Herocon.
- One hero's line stating "Since when did superheroes need an excuse for a fight" is similar to Mighty the Armadillo's explanation from Heroes & Villains.
- It's possible Superzone was once part of New Tek City
- There is a mistake in this issue's credit box. It says that Mick McMahon was resposible for art, while in reality it was Richard Elson .
