Streetsofrage

Streets of Rage is a Sega Superstars series in Sonic the Comic that consists of three 6-part stories and a one-off Sonic the Poster Mag strip. The stories follow the adventures of Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, Max Hatchet and Skates from the Streets of Rage video games (specifically after the second entry) as they attempt to rid The City of crime and corruption.

The Streets of Rage[]

At the start of the series, Axel is a police officer called to a disturbance until he learns that the criminals he has encountered are actual corrupt cops intent on killing him. Axel barely escapes and is admitted into hospital, so colleagues Max and Blaze decide to quit in wake of the overt corruption in the precinct. Instead, they aim to clean up the streets their way. Their first target, after acquiring a bazooka from a gang member, is a 24-hour drug factory owned by former cop Hawk, completely wiping out millions of dollars of production from the streets. However, Hawk gets his own back by sending his ninjas to capture Max, taking him to a foundry to kill. Blaze gets help from old friend Officer Murphy, obtaining a police tracer that will call for help should she need it. On her own, Blaze heads to rescue Max but is captured herself. As the two face up to an early death, the scene is interrupted by a discharged Axel, fresh from his own encounter with ninjas. Axel and Blaze escape to find a police squadron who have just ordered the drop of an incendiary bomb - with Max still inside. Fortunately, Max survives long enough to kill Hawk and get out alive, while Axel gets to punch Captain Wyndam in the face.

Enter Skates[]

The vigilantes continue their march against crime, but Axel ends up late to a meeting with Murphy, who has a computer disk containing the names of several corrupt police officers. Even worse for Murphy is Skates, his criminal stepson, is getting out of prison today. The youth heads straight to see fellow thug Roach as he terrorises the owner of a bar. Elsewhere, Mr X plans to get all officials on his side by blowing the troublesome elements away on board the Princess Grace. This plan also includes the murder of Murphy and ransacking Skates' home for the disk. Fortunately, the device is kept safe somehow and Skates vows to tackle the problem himself. The boy heads to the police station and climbs ten floors so he can secretly record an incriminating conversation. Skates is soon spotted and captured, the corrupt officers stealing (and crushing) his disk and taking him to someone who can kill pests in style - Roach! Fortunately, Roack takes pity on his friend and shoots the police instead.

The heroes learn of Mr X's plan to destroy the boat at around the same time as Skates, so the four converge on the ferry. As Mr X gets ready to escape on his helicopter, the vigilantes panic until Skates destroys the chopper and reveals the destruction of the bomb. Everyone celebrates, until Mr X cries that there is a second bomb, just as it goes off! In the aftermath, Skates aims a flare gun at a floating Mr X but is refused the chance to kill him by a police helicopter that has arrived to rescue survivors. In the end, Mr X is sent to prison and the corrupt officers are ousted thanks to a backup of the disk.

The Bet[]

Routinely ridding the streets of injustice, the now four heroes discover they are the subject of a dangerous wager - how far can they get before they are killed. A desperate rush for safety sees the four battle rabid gang members, a freed Mr X, friends in the force and an incomplete bridge over East River.

Characters[]

All four of the main characters from the second Mega Drive game are present from the second story onwards, as well as final boss Mr X (but not Shiva). Adam, supposedly Skates' brother from the first game, is oddly not present at all, neither is Dr Zan and Roo from the third game.
