Sonic the Hedgehog[]

The Night Before Christmas is a festive complete story written by Ed Reynolds, drawn by Jin Chan Yum Wai and lettered by Mike Corker. Sonic is miffed when his Freedom Fighters friends don't turn up for Christmas dinner, but is interrupted by the Chaotix Crew's plans to revive the Special Zone and meet Father Christmas. Back at Buddy's Bistro, Sonic attacks Amy Rose's new friend Chrysalis, believing her to be a member of The Family. Tails is busy watching over a peaceful Doctor Robotnik Appreciation Tribe march and Knuckles the Echidna would rather sing karaoke than fight, so Sonic is stuck watching television biased against him. Frustrated, Sonic retires for the night, unaware that Santa has paid him a visit...

Features[]

Megadroid introduces this issue's Control Zone, commenting on the issue's strip and features before mentioning that next year is STC's 15th birthday. There's also news of Richard Elson's Kingdom strip and Lew Stringer's three new festive stories. The Data Zone includes brief descriptions of Sonic, Tails, Amy, Porker, Big the Cat, Knuckles and Chaotix. The 'story so far' is that, "for years, the evil Doctor Robotnik ruled Planet Mobius. Eventually, Sonic and his Freedom Fighter gang defeated Robotnik and freed the planet. Things have changed a lot since then…"

Pin-ups include a heroic Christmas tree (Steve Saywood), a villainous Christmas tree (Calisto and Beta), a Chaotix Christmas (Adamis) and a scene with echidnas Knuckles and Tikal) (Adamis). Along with the Chaotix poster, uncoloured covers from Sonic the Poster Mag 2004 and Sonic the Poster Mag 2006 are presented for home-colouring in the Colouring Zone.

The game featured in this month's Review Zone is Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Shadic awards it 74% for its "great multiplayer" and "varied gameplay", but chastised it for being repetitive and "too generic". Along the same lines is the Olympic Zone that sees Hume Jin explore Beijing whilst trying to break the 100m world record.

The Competition Zone challenges Boomers to guess the number of baubles spinning in a bowl, the competition prize being a printed copy of Issue 224. The winner was eventually announced to be Pete Murphy.
