Sandopolisghosts

The Sandopolis Ghosts are the only beings residing in the Lost Pyramid of Sandopolis, aside from the Stone Guardian. The ghosts only appear when the lights go out, and will change their forms according to the level of darkness at the time. When the light is just dimming, they appear as little more than glowing blobs, but become fully-formed malevolent cloaked spectres in total darkness. In their only appearance in Sonic the Comic, they appeared before Captain Plunder, Filch and the Per'fessor as they attempted to leave the pyramid with several bags full of its treasure. Despite being ordered to by Plunder, Filch didn't even try to 'make friends' with the ghosts, believing them to be 'the wrong sort of ghosts', and the leering phantoms chased the pirates out of the pyramid, which sealed shut behind them just when they realised they didn't have a single scrap of loot.

The Sandopolis Ghosts originate from Sonic & Knuckles, and relentlessly pursue the player through act 2 of the Sandopolis Zone, though they are notably less sinister looking in the game.
