Story[]

A large and mysterious lump of dried lava has appeared one evening on the shore of the Lava Loch Zone, and Amy, Tekno and Johnny have come to investigate. After Tekno picks up a heartbeat from inside the lump, it breaks apart to reveal none other than Shortfuse the Cybernik, who the Freedom Fighters haven't seen since the events of Boiling Point. Shortfuse reveals that his power cut out when he was flying over the Lava Loch, and he survived thanks to his invincible armour and reserve power supply. Tekno theorises that his power failure was down to the EMP that wiped out Dr Robotnik's systems in The Final Victory. Shorty is understandably livid that he didn't get to defeat Robotnik, and flies off in a huff after Amy suggests he gets 'a proper job.' Unfortunately, the cybernik fails in all his endeavours, including double-glazing sales, fast food preparation, and armour wax advertising, which he furiously quits after being unable to please the director after twenty takes. As Shorty takes to the skies once more, musing upon how he doesn't seem cut out to be anything other than a warrior, he encounters a temporary gateway to another dimension. The aliens beyond are under attack by a more powerful race, and need Sonic, or at least a hero of his ability to lead their defence. Shorty gladly takes up the job and the gateway quickly disappears. A few days later, Tekno is wondering where the cybernik is, and Amy reassures her that 'he's out there somewhere, being the hero he always wanted to be' as we see Shortfuse gleefully blasting apart the enemy's robots.
