Nuclear bombs are powerful bombs that have the ability to cause tremendous destruction, as well as cause health problems by expelling radiation. Considering the power and the terrible loss of life that comes from using such a weapon, nuclear warfare is neither popular, nor common, in real life.
A nuclear bomb appeared once in Sonic the Comic, as part of the Shining Force universe. Having discovered the weapon in an archaeological dig underneath Ribble, a group of Zeonites planned to detonate the ancient tool and blow open the portal that trapped Zeon in the abyss. Only robot Zynk was aware that this device would destroy the entire Ancient Tower and even half of Granseal Island. Bowie used his sword to open the portal and the whole team pushed the bomb into the abyss before closing the gate. Even from inside the abyss, the exploding bomb's blast forced his way into the tower; this knocked everyone to the ground but no lasting radiation effects were noted.
In the "Sonic" universe, Porker Lewis revealed that he was once tricked by Hammerhead into designing a nuclear bomb, having previously believed that he was helping to create a clean energy source. As soon as the pig realised Hammerhead's plans, Porker burned all of his research and fled to Mobius.
