The News Zone was a regular feature in Sonic the Comic that revealed news from the world of Sega. There was a big emphasis on upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog games, particularly around the region when Sonic the Hedgehog CD and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were being released. When Sonic games weren't coming around, the News Zone instead featured other interesting new games or important inventions like the Sega Channel or the multi-tap.
The end of the News Zone usually included Short Bursts, a quick rundown of some less exciting news but news nonetheless. These could be games that didn't warrant a whole half a page dedicated to them, or re-releases of old games. They also included celebrities playing Sega games and even a story about two kids burning a house down because they were playing Sonic!
Although the original News Zone went uncredited, Issue 24 saw the first occasion of "News Hound" Garry Penn receive the plaudits for collecting the news. However, the feature wouldn't remain a regular one for too much longer as the popularity of the Mega Drive began to wane.
