New Year's Eve is a special occasion on Planet Earth, Mobius and Planet Meridian. It occurs on the last day of every year, with revellers toasting the end of another good year and the imminent arrival of the next one. Parties are synonymous with the day, with groups of friends gathering to cheer at midnight and sing traditional songs. The festival is even more celebrated in Scotland, the people here calling it Hogmanay (leading to several Hogmanay jokes in Sonic the Comic).
Several strips have occurred on or around New Year, with the characters joining the public for the festivities:
- Amy Rose, Johnny Lightfoot and Sonic visited Knuckles the Echidna shortly before New Year to have a break in the Ice Cap Zone as part of the complete story Snow Business.
- Eve of Destruction revolves around a party being disrupted by Doctor Bob Bobble (as the Indestructible Bulk). Sonic and the Chaotix Crew were on hand to defeat this foe before going back to having a good time.
- Decap Attack got in on the action, with The Hungry Guest involving a costume party completely sabotaged by Billy No-Friends, the nephew of Igor.
- Tekno the Canary celebrated New Year by allowing the Freedom Fighters to move into her workshop, kicking off The Monster Wakes.
- Several members of the Emerald Hill folk couldn't decide on their New Year's Resolutions in Riot Resolution, instead opting to visit Wally Dithers' Centre for the Undecided.
- Sonic and Tails opted to visit Knuckles the Echidna one year, taking the time to challenge the echidna in order to see if he's still up to guarding the Chaos Emeralds in New Year Twister.
- An eventful year for Shorty in Breakout saw friend Amber free him from his armour before leaving. He was then faced with the Party Pooper and then tackled Vermin the Cybernik, in the end leading to him being sealed in his armour once more.
- New Year's was shown to occur simultaneously on Earth and Mobius when Colonel Granite invaded the Emerald Hill Zone on New Year's Day. Sonic found himself trapped in London, with the traditional Trafalgar Square party in full swing. The festivities weren't for the Prime Minister, who was still at work gone midnight.
- Time almost folded in on itself when the Time Waster was let loose in New Year Out. When 1999 was prevented from entering the Time Stream by 1930, Amy and Tekno had to put things right.
As of yet, there have been no New Year's stories in Sonic the Comic Online.
