Mammoths are an extinct species, existing up to 4.8 million years ago. Heavily resembling an elephant, the mammoth was a hairy beast with enormous tusks and are thought to have died out when a large ice ace ended.
In Sonic the Comic, the ghost of a mammoth was seen in Ghost World, mounted by a ghostly caveman. Both appeared to be charging towards the hero trio of Shion, Lukout and Wordsmith, but actually happened to be running away from a dinosaur soldier, despite its tiny size.
