Issue 77 is the seventy-seventh edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 27th of April 1996 at the price of £1.20, the issue contains four original strips (two of them new) as well as several features and a free gift of button covers.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Voice of the People is a complete story by Nigel Kitching, Richard Elson and Ellie de Ville. Doctor Robotnik is having a bad day. He still can't find the Emerald Hill folk and Sonic has just reminded him of all his failed projects. Worse still, a protest is occuring on his new statue in Sector Alpha 34. The Special Badnik Service is called in but Sonic and Tails are on hand to rescue the protestors. Explosives then bring the statue down, showing that Robotnik is losing his grip on the planet.

Knuckles the Echidna[]

The Ghost Ship is a 6-part story written by Kitching, with art by Nigel Dobbyn and letters by Elitta Fell. In Scourge Bay, Knuckles has discovered a trunk full of documents about the Floating Island. However, Captain Plunder isn't keen to return to the Ghost Ship of Tantaragor and sets his Sky Pirates on the echidna. The ruckus beings Pirate Queen Zorabel along and many of them are transported by Ekkletos to the Tantaror dimension.

Shining Force[]

The Curse of Zeon is a 6-part story by Kitching, drawn by Martin Griffiths, coloured by Gina Hart and lettered by Steve Potter. Bowie is dying from a gunshot wound when the ghost of Maximillian rises from his sword. His magic revives Bowie and allows him to fight Baron Kadavaar. The much stronger Bowie defeats the villain and learns of the Zeonite's plans in the Ancient Tower.

Sonic's World[]

Hidden Danger is a 2-part story by Lew Stringer, Kitching, Steve White and Fell. The peaceful Tropical Jungle Zone is shattered by an unknown force, so Sonic and Tails are called in to help. After insulting Robotnik through a camera, Sonic is attacked by a robot hidden by a cloaking device. Sonic is knocked out, leaving Tails alone against the unseen beast.

Features[]

Megadroid introduces this issue's stories and features and is being distracted by the "Bring Back Porker Brigade" after his departure last issue. There's also a look forward to the 3rd birthday celebrations in Issue 79. Many of the Sega Charts leaders are non-movers, with Sega Rally, Earthworm Jim and Sonic Chaos still topping the Saturn, Mega-CD and Game Gear charts. Sonic & Knuckles returns to the top of the Mega Drive list.

Toy Story for the Mega Drive is given the treatment in the Review Zone. This week's Graphic Zone is renamed "Fit Zone", with heroes, villains and even Megadroid getting into shape with a variety of sports and exercises. Printed pictures won artists a pack of Crayola Overwriters. A Micro Machines special features in the Q Zone. Speedlines contains letters about expanding the Sega Charts, Zynk from the Shining Force and the obese Robotnik. Everything in Speedlines won a Sega Sonic & Knuckles disposable camera.
