Issue 70 is the seventieth edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 20th of January 1996 at the price of £1.20, the issue contains four original stories (one of them new), as well as several features and a Ball Hog pin-up by Ferran Rodriguez. This is the only issue of the main series to be printed on a rougher, non-glossy paper stock.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

The Return of Chaotix is a 6-part story by Nigel Kitching, Richard Elson and Ellie de Ville. Sonic, Porker Lewis and the Chaotix Crew have discovered The Underground, where Doctor Kintobor helps Sonic with an Anti-Metallix device. The Omni-Viewer takes them on a chase through time, leading them to a battle with the Brotherhood of Metallix. Sonic also picks up a rotten egg and takes back to when he got his streamlined look.

Decap Attack[]

Nanny Knows Best is a complete story written and drawn by Kitching, with extra scripting by Richard Rayner and lettering by Tom Frame. Professor Frank N. Stein's Nanny is helping Head get over his drink addiction, but Igor is less than happy. He invites Chuck D. Head back into Castle Frank N. Stein and rescues Head from the Mr Cuddle Bunny stories. She gets her revenge when an attack by Head backfires into the troublemakers.

Knuckles the Echidna[]

The Graveyard is a 4-part story by Kitching, Nigel Dobbyn and Elitta Fell. After being subjected to a Poison dryalid, Knuckles is now having to fight off reanimated skeletons of the extinct Kohenyu. When he wakes up after passing out, the Spirit of the Herd tells him how they died out, with the echidna's ancestors targeting the males until there were none left.

Sonic's World[]

Brute Force is a 4-part story written by Lew Stringer, drawn by Carl Flint, coloured by Dondie Cox and lettered by Steve Potter. Commander Brutus has tricked Grimer into building some mind scanners and has learned how to build Badniks. He returns to the Misery Zone to convert his prisoners, while Doctor Robotnik learns what Brutus has just had made. Elsewhere, Johnny Lightfoot is responding to a distress call in the Cotton Factory Zone when he is swamped by Brutus' Badniks.

Features[]

Megadroid presents the Control Zone, eagerly awaiting the stories inside before revealing the winners of an Issue 64 competition. Many games rise to the top of their respective charts in the Sega Charts; Soulstar is the new Mega-CD champion, Mickey Mouse 2 tops the Master System chart and Star Trek: Generations does the same for the Game Gear. FIFA Soccer '96 is a new entry at the top for the Mega Drive.

The same football game is the centre of attention in the Review Zone, with Chris Jones awarding it 90%. The second part of the Batman Forever Q Zone special is presented by David Gibbon, helping with the final five levels and some general tips.

Speedlines sees Boomers send in letters about the origins of Sonic, the sex of Knuckles and the cleanliness of Sonic's Power Sneakers.
