Issue 272 is the two-hundred and seventy-second edition of Sonic the Comic and the forty-ninth edition of Sonic the Comic Online. It was released online at http://www.stconline.co.uk/comics/stc272/ in September 2017.

Strips[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Final Act is a complete story by Charles Ellis, Reggie "Ziggyfin" Graham and Chris G, although is a direct sequel to The Battle of Emerald Hill. Sonic has made a public reappearance and is ready to assist Tails and the other Emerald Hill Zone forces in repelling Doctor Robotnik, his Nega-Wisp Armour and Badnik reinforcements. Sonic and Tails team up and use Robotnik's Chaos Tap against him, defeating him and effectively ending the main war.

Sonic's World[]

The Fallen is a complete Sonic's World story written and lettered by Michael Corker, with art by Graham. Effectively a Tekno & Shorty story that follows on from "Wreckage", Shortfuse the Cybernik has been reunited with Tekno the Canary (herself now a trapped Cybernik but have been surrounded by Robotnik's forces (including an enormous Cowbot). Aided by Niya the Gorilla, the heroes fight back but Tekno is struggling to adjust to her new weaponry. She eventually does but inadvertently destroys her factory and Nicenik army but her relationship with Shorty is improving - until Robotnik remotely takes over Tekno's suit and takes her back to his factory for repairs.

Sonic's World[]

The Sting is a second Sonic's World story of the issue and is a flashback, taking place before Amy Rose becomes trapped on the Miracle Planet. Written by Jamie J, drawn by Adamis, coloured by Claire Ryan and lettered by Chris G, the strip ties up the loose ends began regarding Don Long-Legs and The Family. The Kintobor Computer has gained access to G.U.N.'s Spengle-101 Satellite to track down the Don and pin-pointed him to a market in Metropolis City. Tails is sent on a runaround against the clock but eventually locates his target - who reveals all the good work his Family have been doing to help the war effort.

Captain Plunder[]

Dagon is a 2-part story completely created by Tom Campbell. Off the coast of Scourge Bay, Captain Plunder and the Sky Pirates are enjoying all the good luck that Cream the Rabbit has brought them when they are attacked by the unknown villain Dagon and its crew. Plunder and Cream are locked away but Filch and Simpson the Cat sneak loose and search for something that will get their captain his ship back.

Control Zone[]

The Control Zone, hosted by Megadroid, is a quick introduction to this issue and comments on the wait since Sonic Mania was released and before Sonic Forces is out on shelves.

Data Zone[]

The regular recap this time focuses on Sonic, Robotnik and Tails but expands to focus on the main characters in each of this issue's stories.

Flashback Zone[]

Written by L. T. Fletcher and compiled by Michael Corker, this issue's flashback is on Out of Work Hero, the Shortfuse the Cybernik story in which he resurfaced following The Final Victory and no longer had a purpose. This tied in with this issue's "The Fallen".

Pin-ups[]

Pin-ups this issue are of the cover (James 'Darknoise' Kennedy), an image of Don Long-Legs controlling Amy, Tails and G.U.N. like puppets (Ernest Panda and Claire Ryan) and stills from "Final Act" and "The Fallen" (both Reggie "Ziggyfin" Graham).

Speedlines[]

At the time of writing in June 2018, 158 votes had been cast towards the issue's top story which was awarded to "Final Act", earning 75% of the votes and 118 selections in total. This was followed by "The Fallen" (16), "Dagon" (13) and "The Sting" (11).

In the comments, Megadroid reveals that the stories in the strip were created long before Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces were announced so have little part to play in the strips, and Megadroid also confirms that conversations on the comics has generally moved from the Message Zone to the website itself.
