Issue 271 is the two-hundred and seventy-first issue of Sonic the Comic and the 49th edition of Sonic the Comic, released online on August 16th 2017. The release of Issue 271 marked the longest delay since a previous issue's publication (over a year) and coincided with the initial release of Sonic Mania.
As part of the count-down to Issue 275, four out of the five strips in this issue are linked, forming a sequenced narrative. Wreckage is the only one that doesn't fit squarely into the single plotline, but is related.

Stories[]
Sonic the Hedgehog[]
The Ending of Things! is a complete story (but one that follows on directly from The Trial of Ebony the Cat) written and lettered by Michael Corker, with art from Adamis, Pete Murphy and Claire Ryan. Following Ebony's sentencing, the trial is interrupted by an alarm, signifying the meddling of Blaze the Cat. Ebony is accidentally sent into the past but, with Sonic's help, The Order of Magick are able to successfully subdue Blaze and send her elsewhere. What they manage to do is send "The Loop" back to her days as a child, albeit with the power of fire. Sonic is returned to the Aquatic Ruin Zone with no memory of this adventure.
Blaze the Cat[]
The Burning of Things is a complete story, again written by Corker with art from Ernest Panda. Taking place within "The Ending of Things!", Blaze is caught within the Flame and finds herself remembering another time. Images of her previous stories swim through her head and she shares a conversation with Silver the Hedgehog, remembering Iblis and The Burning very differently. As Blaze remembers what keeps happening to her, she decides to take Ebony's place in the timestream, rewriting history...
Double Sonic[]
The Ending of Things! (Redux) repeats the first story, albeit with a twist ending. As Odobi has now accidentally trapped Blaze, this gives Ebony the chance to relate what is happening to Blaze and send her somewhere safe. Her co-operation with the Order allows her to keep her magick and Sonic is instead transported to the Emerald Hill Zone, where a battle is underway...
Sonic's World[]
Wreckage is a complete story by Corker, Shira, Reggie "Ziggyfin" Graham and Ryan. The White Park Zone is under threat from Trooper attacks but is being protected by a rogue collection of Badniks controlled by the Tekno the Canary Cybernik. Shortfuse the Cybernik and Niya the Gorilla stumble on this, but an emotional reunion is cut short by reinforcements from the Troopers.
Sonic's World[]
The Battle For Emerald Hill is a complete story written by Charles Ellis, drawn by James "Darknoise" Kennedy, coloured by Pete Murphy and lettered by Chris G. Free Mobius is attempting a final push against the Egg Bastion and launches an attack whilst simultaneously defending Emerald Hill. Tails finds himself struggling with the leadership pressures, and this is worsened when Knuckles the Echidna, Silver and Vector the Crocodile find the Bastion abandoned. Tails finds himself face to face with the real Doctor Robotnik and a repaired Chaos Tap but help is at hand from a certain heroic hedgehog.
Features[]
The Review Zone commends the very recent release of Sonic Mania, with Adamis, Corker and Panda all giving their views on the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions. In classic fashion, the game is given 93%.
The Flashback Zone, written by L. T. Fletcher (and hosted by the Omni-Viewer) recaps Issue 154's Desert Storm. Speedlines simply hosts a poll asking Boomers for their favourite strip this issue.
Pin-ups on offer include a recreation of the cover (by Graham), an all-female version of the Sonic Mania crew (Amy Rose, Tekno and Ebony, as drawn by Corker), a panel from The Battle for Emerald Hill, a battle scene featuring Porker Lewis, Tails, Amy and an EggRobo by Dane Ike and a Shortfuse graphic again by Corker.
