Issue 247 is the two hundred and fourty-seventh edition of Sonic the Comic and the twenty-ninth overall edition of Sonic the Comic Online. Released on the 31st of August 2008 at STC Online, the issue contained three original stories, two of them new, as well as several features.

Contents[]

Strips[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Jail Break is a complete story set within the realms of Sonic the Hedgehog's fall from grace. Written by Ed Reynolds, with art from Adamis and letters by Mike Corker, Sonic has been arrested thanks to the events of last issue. Amy Rose has come to plead his innocence, but instead breaks him out of jail with an invisible photon cannon. The heroes speed through the corridors and eventually teleport out to a flying vehicle piloted by Knuckles the Echidna and Tails. In mid-flight, Sonic changes his attitude, knocks out Knuckles and Amy and forces Tails to make a crash-landing. With Sonic finally hated by his friends, the real Sonic wakes up under a volcano to discover that the chaos on Mobius has been caused by the new Neo Metallix.

Sonic's World[]

Rouge Alert is a 2-part story by Robert Frazer, Jon Lock, Iain Stewart and Charles Ellis. During a speech by Duke Biriud, Rouge the Bat sets off smoke bombs in the auditorium, prompting Dunzi and the Household Keepers to act. As Marquess Telentu urges calm, Oswald the Sniper fails to get a shot in due to the smoke. A stand-off results in Dunzi being shot at by the crook, but it turns out to be a hologram with a fake gun. Unfortunately, the action caused the Keepers to shoot at the hologram, thoroughly wrecking a priceless mural. Safe in Starlight Towers, Rouge collects her pay from Master Scholar and requests her next mission.

Amy & Tekno[]

Revolutionary is the first Amy Rose & Tekno the Canary team-up in STC-O and is completely handled by Corker. Set before the events in the main story, the Coal Creek Zone is seen to undergo a change in management with a treacherous General defeating the council of stags. The Kintobor Computer receives a transmission that the Zone wants peace with neighbouring Ocean Falls Zone. A visit to see them reveals that Nack the Weasel is their new leader and recounts a tale of slavery in the Diamond Fjord Zone. That night, Tekno sneaks into Nack's room and discovers that Nack plans a war, only to be arrested by that very weasel.

Features[]

The Control Zone, hosted by Megadroid, comments on the current 2008 Summer Olympic Games and shows quite a strong disgust towards the London 2012 logo. Aside from that, the droid introduces the three stories within the issue and teases about the final part of Vichama is Coming Home. An advert gives information on Zak Simmonds-Hurn's new project The DFC and The Strange Strange World of Weird.

This issue's Data Zone tells us that "A dangerous villain is threatening Mobius with Mega-Mack bombs- and worse, it appears to be Sonic! With the Freedom Fighters out of action and the Green Hill Zone at risk, can the real Sonic save the day?". This description appears to be false, as the Freedom Fighters seem to just fine, two of them assisting "Sonic" this issue. Character descriptions are given for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Porker Lewis, Knuckles, Rouge, Dunzi, Tekno and Nack.

Aside from his colouring duties in the Rouge story, Iain Stewart provided an entry for the Review Zone, analysing Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. The review caused mild debate in the Message Zone, with Stewart giving the game a measly 25% and lambasted the "dreadful graphics" and stated that it was "uncontrollable" and "unfinished". Wallpapers came from Corker and Adamis, as well as a version of the front cover.

Reception[]

This issue had a slightly shorter delay compared to previous issues, but there were a few remarks of rushed work on a couple of the stories. Much of the criticism was negative, which led to an 11-page debate on criticism and "fun" stories. The edition was accused of being "un-STC" and the presence of Knuckles the Echidna when he was supposed to be dead caused confusion, leading to a mix-up of chronology. Worse still is that editor Charles Ellis revealed the identity of Knuckles, spoiling the finale of Vichama three issues later. Many people didn't notice that it was Nack on the front cover.
