Issue 169 is the one hundred and sixty-ninth edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 17th October 1999 at the price of £1.30, the issue contains one new, original story and three reprints, as well as several features, a Meccano Action Troopers competition and a Knuckles the Echidna pin-up by Richard Elson (from the cover of Issue 40).

Secret of the Gods is a complete story by Lew Stringer, Mick McMahon and Elitta Fell. Tekno the Canary has upgraded the Ring of Eternity so she can choose where people travel to and the gathered heroes can see a slave being bullied by his master in Ancient Egypt. Sonic the Hedgehog and Amy Rose leap into the past and deal with the threat but are faced by "gods" Set, Hathor and Thoth. They are ousted as alien invaders but a furious Set follows the heroes back to Mobius with an aim to conquer it.

This issue's Graphic Zone theme is "Star Draws", the issue coming out in time for the new Star Wars film, with several STC characters wearing space and Jedi outfits. Winning pictures received a Sonic the Hedgehog watch.
