Issue 137 is the one hundred and thirty-seventh edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 26th August 1998 at the price of £1.25, the issue contains three original stories (one of them new) and a reprint, as well as several features, a Cheetos competition and a free gift of bike stickers.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]
Roots is a 4-part story written and coloured by Nigel Kitching, with drawing by Richard Elson and lettering from Ellie de Ville. Sonic and the Chaotix Crew have all been captured by Root and are told how Blockhead Bill and Society Max became slaves to the Mind Root. Chaotix soon lose their minds and are ready to turn New Tek City into a swamp, but Sonic breaks free and easily evades Chaotix.
Amy[]
Day of the Puppets is a complete story by Lew Stringer, with art from Carl Flint and John M Burns, Fell providing the letters. On their next stop, Amy and Tekno the Canary have arrived on the prison ship Astratraz as the "Guggets" break free. Tekno pretends to help them find a planet to invade, neglecting to mention that it is Planet Terminus, a world filled with giant termites.
Knuckles the Echidna[]
The Take-Over is a 4-part story by Kitching, Nigel Dobbyn and Elitta Fell. Having escaped a deadly fall, Knuckles is in the tunnels of the Floating Island whilst Ms Alpha and her team deal with the Guardian Robots. Before it is too late, Mr Delta is able to tune their chameleon circuits to the robots' frequency, rendering them invisible. Knuckles and the villains soon cross paths in the tunnels, but Ms Alpha incapacitates the echidna with a shock collar.
Features[]
Megadroid presents the Control Zone, introducing everything in the issue, including prizes worth £160 and a look back to the older days of Amy. In keeping with the Spice Girls theme of the competition, the Graphic Zone is titled "Spice Power". Here, the STC cast dress up as similar teen idols, mainly grouped into bands. All printed pictures earned the artists a Sonic the Hedgehog watch.
Speedlines features letters from Boomers about the change to computer art in the strips, advice on how to draw Grimer, a note about swearing in comics and a rival publication (made by a reader). Everything printed in Speedlines won an Enamel Badge.
