Issue 109 is the one hundred and ninth edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 23rd of July 1997 at the price of £1.25, the issue contains four original stories (three of them new) as well as several features.

Strips[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

The Evil Empire is a 4-part story by Nigel Kitching, Richard Elson and Tom Frame. Sonic has been taken to Planet Drak where House of War leader Emperor Ko-Dorr accuses him of destroying a Sentinel in the Aquatic Ruin Zone. Later, Doctor Robotnik informs the prisoner that the judicial system is Trial by Combat and Tails arrives to provide support. Robotnik is ready to destroy his old foe with the Metallix Mark 3.

Tails[]

Kog the Mighty is a complete story written by Lew Stringer, with art by Andy Pritchett and lettering from Ellie de Ville. Tails arrives in the Metropolis Zone to destroy Balkiry Badniks attacking the Citadel Robotnik demolition crew, but a stray electrical charge awakens Kog, a robot previously owned by Doctor Kintobor. After a misunderstanding, Tails polishes him up into a history teacher.

Decap Attack[]

Dreaded Poople Plague is a complete story by Kitching, Richard Rayner, Mick McMahon and de Ville. Beliving his time machine to be responsible for the death of Doctor Daffyd Leek, Professor Frank N. Stein and the rest of Castle Frank N. Stein head to Medieval Swansea to cure poopleism. Gareth and Blodwyn don't take too kindly to his alternative medicine, but Leek returns, very much alive, to handle things his way.

Amy[]

Star Struck is a 2-part story written by Stringer, drawn by Roberto Corona, coloured by John M Burns and lettered by Elitta Fell. In reward for them saving him, Norris Wimple has invited Amy Rose and Tekno the Canary to a Fabian Vane concert. The heroes are called into action when 'fan' Bruiser Magoon storms the stage and they are later asked to become Vane's bodyguards. They're needed immediately and have to drive Vane away from an angry mob. Remarks from the fans make the girls suspicious.

Features[]

The Control Zone sees Megadroid preparing to go to the seaside for a holiday, but manages to introduce this issue's stories and announces future Decap story The Tooth.

This issue's Graphic Zone theme is "Furry(ish) Zone", with several STC characters appearing to look like other animals. Published pictures were awarded with Crayola Mini Stampers 2. Speedlines features letters on including more Tails stories, praise for Issue 100 and a quick poem about the Humes. Boomers writing in received a Sonic 2 Crucial Cup.
