Issue 103 is the one hundred and third edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 30th of April 1997 at the price of £1.25, the issue contains four original stories (all of them new) as well as several features and a Buzz Bomber pin-up.

Strips[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

DIY Danger is a complete story by Lew Stringer, with art duties shared between Roberto Corona and Nigel Dobbyn, Tom Frame providing the lettering. Sonic is in the Jade Hill Zone to witness the opening of a new bridge built by Roger Bodge. His shoddy work has left it dangerous, forcing Sonic to save him when it collapses. Worse still, Sonic is shown around Bodge's home, where he discovers he owns his own butler Trooper.

Captain Plunder[]

Captain Plunder and the Spice Maidens is a 6-part story by Nigel Kitching, Dobbyn and Elitta Fell. Plunder, Filch and Simpson the Cat are attempting to convince people to join the Sky Pirates, but it isn't going well. Zorabel arrives and informs Plunder that her daughters, the Spice Maidens, are going to join his crew - when they're finished causing bother.

Sonic's World[]

Crawling From the Wreckage is a complete story starring Amy Rose, Johnny Lightfoot and Tekno the Canary. Written by Stringer, drawn by Richard Elson and lettered by Frame, the story sees the Freedom Fighters examining the ruins of Citadel Robotnik. In the basement sees the founding members of the Doctor Robotnik Appreciation Tribe and new recruit Brother Norman. The keen nerd chases the heroes in Doctor Robotnik's old Egg-o-Matic but is felled by its design flaw.

Tails[]

Flip Side is a 2-part story by Stringer, Carl Flint, John M Burns and Ellie de Ville. On the way to the Greenfield Zone, Tails is dismayed when people can't remember his name, believing him to be boring. He pays a visit to Doctor Sorders, who hypnotises him into being cool. Unfortunately, his new attitude could prove detrimental to Alf Bandstand and his co-pilot, who are about to crash-land their hot air balloon.

Features[]

The Control Zone, hosted by Megadroid, introduces this issue's stories and features before informing Boomers how to get their pictures posted. There's also a teaser for next issue's Flickies' Island story, featuring art from Issue 104's cover. The Sega Charts, newly reduced to just two formats, sees FIFA '97 remain top of the Mega Drive chart while a new entry, the Die Hard Trilogy', storms to the head of the Saturn list.

This issue's Graphic Zone theme is the "Zany Amy Zone", featuring several pictures of Amy Rose. Published pictures won readers a pack of Crayola Mini Stampers 2. Speedlines includes letters about "Combat Colin" (a Stringer creation), a Spanish subscription fan and there's a "prickled hedgehog" joke. All letters and pictures published here won Boomers a Sonic 2 Crucial Cup.
