The Frozen Zone is a Zone on South Island that is in "perpetual winter". The entire landscape is covered with snow and ice and is completely uninhabited.

History[]

Back in the "great days", a mighty battle was fought on the site where the Frozen Zone now stands. Moved by his soldiers' valour, the Savannah Emperor used his divine powers to create the Frozen Zone, a cold land where the bodies of his retainers would be preserved and "forver shine at their moment of glory".

In the present day, The Frozen Zone's only noteworthy landmark is the North Cave, which Sonic the Hedgehog once used as a hiding place for the Chaos Emeralds until Captain Plunder and the Sky Pirates found them.

Following Sonic the Hedgehog's fall from grace, Sonic made the Frozen Zone his temporary home whilst resting from destroying Badniks. Whilst sleeping, he was accidentally disturbed by Masad Akaan of the Household Keepers, who he went on to help in his pursuit of a super-weapon. The pair squared up to Lord Utsire, a Drakon also searching for the device. Sonic ended the encounter by destroying the mystical cube and fleeing the Frozen Zone with Akaan's blessing.

The Pleasant Zone was once referred to as the 'Frozen Zone'. This was due to The Chiller using his Chill-Machine to freeze the Zone and soon appeared much like the South Island location until Sonic returned it to its former glory.

Other Zones that are completely made of snow and ice include the Ice Cap Zone and Polarzone.
