Story[]
The Emerald Hill Zone is under attack by Badniks once again, but Sonic the Hedgehog is on hand to rescue them once again. The hero makes short work of them, using a Spin Attack to destroy one and allows another two to break each other by watching them crash into themselves. From the remains of one Badnik emerges a monitor, from which Doctor Robotnik makes a personal appearance. He initially states that he'll have to upgrade his Badniks, until he wonders if the pair could come to some sort of agreement. The former dictator asks Sonic to meet him on Sky High Peak for peace talks the next day, with a promise of no tricks and no weapons. As the screen switches off, a citizen urges Sonic not to fall into a trap, but Sonic is keen to negotiate for peace.
A day later, Sonic and Robotnik meet on the highest point of the Rocky Valley Zone. Robotnik attempts to be cordial, but skips to the point after conflict with Sonic. He promises to never both anyone again - as long as he is allowed control over one Zone. Sonic states that every Zone is under his protection and there is no deal. Robotnik expected as much and reveals that he is nothing but a holographic projection. Unfortunately, a Plasma Ray Cannon pointing right at Sonic is very real, operated by Robotnik back in his secret headquarters. Without any hesitation, Robotnik destroys the peak and declares victory, but is dismayed to see Sonic floating in midair, perfectly unharmed. The hedgehog had also expected a trick and asked Tekno the Canary to create a hologram of him, operated from Tekno's Workshop. With nowhere else to go, both holograms terminate.
Trivia[]
- This story is a bonus strip in the bumper Christmas issue, containing the same number of pages as the lead strip.
- It is unclear how "Robotnik" reached the top of Sky High Peak.
- The Rocky Valley Zone has taken on a volcanic appearance since its last outing, compared to its lush, scenic image in Deception. In this state, it more closely resembles the Rocky Desert Zone or Hill Top Zone.
- The deal did not specify which Zone Robotnik could control. Sonic could have handed over an uninhabited Zone and received world peace in return. However, it isn't sure whether or not Robotnik would have honoured the truce.
- Similarly, Robotnik already controls Flickies' Island, which contains several Zones.
- This is Sonic and Tekno's first major team-up without any other heroes present. They would later reunite in The Trickster.
