Eve of Destruction is a Sonic the Hedgehog complete story that first appeared in Issue 94 of Sonic the Comic. It takes place during Sonic's stay in the Special Zone.

Story[]
The action begins with Sonic and the Chaotix Crew fighting a monster on New Year's Day, with the foe getting even stronger. But how did we get to this point? Rewind to a party on New Year's Eve, with scientist Doctor Bob Bobble boring the pants off a young, female partygoer. Sick of hearing about Bobble's into delta wave energy, she runs off to dance with a young male who promptly mocks the doctor. Angered with people laughing at his genius, Bobble marches out of the disco (strangling a balloon) and returns to his laboratory, unveiling his new Delta Ray Machine. Bob clicks a remote to turn on the device, but it is more powerful than he expects and drops the remote when the delta rays begin to hit him. Absorbing the radiation, Bobble begins to grow and grow, his muscles bulging and is soon too big to be contained in his tank top. Unable to find the remote, Bobble tries the manual approach and crushes the nozzle of the machine to turn it off. Unfortunately, he is horrified to see he has become a monster (the one from the beginning of the story).
Out on the streets, Mighty the Armadillo is concerned that Chaotix shouldn't be out on the streets when they're wanted for a crime they didn't commit, but Sonic assures them they won't be spotted in the crowd. With the bell about to chime for 1998, the moment is delayed when Bob Bobble leaps onto the tower and rips it from its mount. The monster begins his revenge by hurling it towards the crowd, but Sonic saves them by using a Sonic-Cyclone to slow its fall before Mighty and Espio the Chameleon catch it. Bobble is furious that his fun has been spoiled and attempts to crush Sonic. The fight breaks out, but Bobble gets even bulkier, leading to him pronouncing himself "The Incredible Bulk". Vector the Crocodile realises this was once Bobble and heads to his laboratory.
As Sonic launches a Spin Attack, Charmy Bee believes he may have stopped the monster, but the rest realise he is still growing from his experiments. Vector arrives with a fixed Delta Ray Machine and fires it at him, reversing the polarity. Bobble returns to his usual self, brain cells replacing brute force, but is mortified when Sonic trashes his creation. The hedgehog angrily tells Bobble to use his genius to help other people rather than be someone he is not, before the heroes begin to celebrate New Year's.
Trivia[]
- This story is a thinly-veiled parody of The Incredible Hulk.
- Chaotix mention still being wanted by the police, something they mentioned in Heroes & Villains. Next story Doomsday reveals they are no longer wanted, suggesting this act of heroism changed the police's mind.
- The Bulk is seen waving a street sign about, much like Chaos would do on Route 99 much later.
- Sonic telling Bobble to use his genius to help people reflects his defeat of The Chiller.
