In Sonic the Comic Issue 17, Sonic the Hedgehog was captured by Dr. Robotnik and plugged into a device called the Brain Drain Machine. While connected to the machine, Sonic was subjected to a brainwashing program in the form of a nightmare. This nightmare scenario depicted Sonic as a human boy called Erin.
In this dream state, Erin lived with his mother who tried to force him to eat a hard-boiled egg for breakfast. Erin did not believe what was happening, certain that he was a hedgehog called Sonic and that this woman was not his mother. Refusing to eat his egg, he ran into the back garden where he heard his next door neighbour calling for help. Erin looked through a knothole in the fence to see a nerdy-looking boy with hair resembling a pair of fox tails, being terrorized by unseen bullies (their shadows resembled Badniks). Erin attempted to break down the fence with a Super Spin Attack, but just cartwheeled into the fence and knocked himself out. He woke up in bed, the sheets holding him too tightly for him to move. Erin's mother then came in with a very rotten-looking boiled egg, urging her son to forget about the silly games he played and accept he was just an ordinary boy. Erin refused and continued to struggle, and his mother demanded him to "EAT IT, SPIKEBALL!" in Robotnik's voice. It was at this point that Sonic finally woke up.
Trivia[]
