Christmas 2012 is the 47th overall edition of Sonic the Comic Online. Unlike previous Christmas specials, this issue is not part of the Sonic the Poster Mag series, instead a regular special.

Strips[]
The Christmas Shift is a complete story written and lettered by Charles Ellis, drawn by John Swidan and coloured by Pete Murphy. The Kintobor Computer is keen for the Freedom Fighters to get together and celebrate Christmas but they are too worried about Doctor Ivo Robotnik's efforts to ruin it for everyone else. Tails, Amy Rose and many other heroes save the day across the world, but are surprised to find that Kintobor has organised a party for them.
Features[]
Megadroid, presenting the Control Zone, acknowledges the praise Issue 259 received and introduces the strip and features within this issue. The droid also reminds Boomers to have plays of Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed and NiGHTS Into Dreams and thanks everyone for reading the comic in 2012.
Stories covered in the Breaking News ticker are headed by panic that Robotnik has assassinated Father Christmas. Dr Wilhelm Goht from the Metropolis City University proves how Robotnik could not have done it. Elsewhere, comic The Flashy has closed its doors (with a reference to STC-O being online) and film series the Midnight Saga comes to a close.
The Data Zone includes brief descriptions of several characters including Tails, Amy, The Ultimax, Big the Cat and Kintobor. The "story so far" states "Doctor Robotnik has returned and Mobius is at war! In the old days, there was a close-knit gang of Freedom Fighters but the heroes are scattered now, with a lot of ground to cover."
Wallpapers include the three variant covers, including one of Robotnik and Grimer (Bakasam), Big dressed as Father Christmas (Adamis and Matt Dittmer) and two variations of the Chaotix Crew receiving inappropriate presents (Adamis and Dittmer). Also included is the final panel from "The Christmas Shift", a scene of Tails that references Plasma (Dittmer) and a nostalgic winter picture of Sonic the Hedgehog and Amy (Murphy).
The "Coming Soon" features snapshots of future stories in 2013. Panels are taken from stories involving Sonic facing up to Jet the Hawk, the return of the digital Shadow the Hedgehog against a Robotnik mech, a new Knuckles/Chaotix team-up, a bedraggled Amy against an unknown assailant, the next part of the Silver the Hedgehog saga and the continuation of Skeletons in the Closet.
Timeline[]
The previous issue of Sonic the Comic Online was Issue 259, although the last special was Sonic the Easter Special. The next issue is Issue 260. This is the current special.
