Story[]
Since Sonic became stranded in the Special Zone, the Freedom Fighters are struggling, but continuing to resist Robotnik. On this occasion, they are outnumbered by Badniks. Things take a turn for the worst when Tails is knocked out of the sky, and Amy is swept up by a Balkiry when she goes to make sure Tails is okay. Johnny hurls his staff at the Badnik, but misses, and Tails is still too woozy to go after them. As Johnny and Tails are surrounded by the remaining Badniks, the Balkiry holding Amy is shot down by an unseen laser blast. As Amy plummets to the ground, her rescuer is revealed to be Shortfuse the Cybernik, who wastes no time in launching into his backstory. Shortfuse and Amy rejoin the battle on the ground, and make short work of the Badniks. As the heroes recuperate after their battle, Amy offers Shortfuse a place on the team, which he declines. Tails and Johnny respond that Robotnik will show them no mercy since Sonic's not around, which convinces the loner Cybernik to join them. The heroes strike a dramatic pose as Shorty vows he'll join the Freedom Fighters for as long as it takes to bring Robotnik down, even if he can't fill Sonic's shoes.
